Bees boss hails full-time plan

Article from Nationwide Conference Weekend Preview, 37

New Barnet boss Martin Allen is delighted the club are to retain their full-time status next season after signing a one-year contract with the club.

The 37-year-old took charge on a temporary basis following the departure of Peter Shreeves in March, and has impressed the board of directors enough to be given more time to prove his ability.

Allen has achieved two wins, two draws and two defeats since taking charge from former Sheffield Wednesday boss Shreeves but he has been hampered by the departures of Wayne Purser, Greg Heald, John Doolan and Lee Harrison during that time.

Along with Allen’s deal, it was agreed by the directors that Barnet will continue to operate on a full-time basis during the 2003-04 campaign, although a training programme will be devised to allow for any part-time or non-contract players.

Allen said: “It is a big bonus that the chairman and directors have decided to keep the club running as a full-time operation. It gives everyone a big lift.

“It’s my first job in management and I’m very excited about the prospect of building this team for next season and we hope to go for the play-offs.”
