Programme Notes

Nuneaton 12 October

Good afternoon and welcome to the BFCSA page.

GET WELL SOON

The Committee would like to wish a speedy recovery to ex-committee member Alan Springett. 43 year old Alan unfortunately suffered a heart attack the night before the Morecambe match.

This was the first home game he has missed for over 30 years and Forest Green the first away game missed since Minehead in 1978 (not including the infamous off-on again Enfield match). We believe his record number of games is second only to Steve Percy's and we all hope to see him back on the East Terrace as soon as possible.

POP QUIZ

A quick thankyou to everyone involved in putting on the Pop Quiz in aid of the KBA funds a couple of Saturdays ago. An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended, (thanks for coming) and I must compliment Alex Jones on his dry-wit as compere!

A big 'thankyou' also to Barnet Hospital Radio for loaning the PA system.

Although I have only been coming to Barnet as a 'grown up' for the last few seasons I used to see Barnet as a child with various school friends. I remember one game where the opposition goalie had long curly hair, and some bright spark shouted out "Oi! I was gonna get a haircut like that, but I bought a penny-chew instead!"

As I had two left feet the beautiful game never really appealed to me so I decided to grow my hair like that goalie and ended up playing drums in various groups instead. After spending more time than I care to remember lugging said drums round London, playing gigs to less people than Enfield FC get, I decided to hang up my sticks, cut my hair and look for a new hobby.

I looked no further than Underhill. Although Barnet didn't win a game for the remainder of the season that I started attending, I was hooked. Throughout the following season I hardly missed a home game and it finished with us being roundly defeated by Peterborough in the third division play-offs.

With the smell of defeat still fresh in my nostrils I bought my first season ticket for the following season and haven't looked back since. After the supporters association AGM in 2001 my brother (Phil, who writes this page) had just joined the committee. They mentioned that they were thinking of setting up a website. As I have always enjoyed messing around on computers he suggested that I might be interested.

Before long I had also joined the committee and started spending my evenings developing the website. As I am married with two children this sometimes causes a bit of friction at home - about once a night on average.

But over the last year - with a lot of help from Phil, and access to records that Steve Percy (BFCSA chairman) has going back to 1965 - I like to think that we have an interesting website that is useful to both Barnet fans, and other football fans in general. (There are also others who have contributed towards it, or have pointed out inaccuracies and omissions that I would like to take this opportunity to thank.)

If you are interested, our website can be found at www.bfcsa.net - it used to be www.bfcsa.co.uk but we have changed that recently for reasons that are too complicated to go into here.
