Programme Notes

Southport, 18 March 2003

Good evening and welcome to the BFCSA page.

BFCSA AND THE KBA

I've never wanted to comment on messages that are posted on the message board on the Clubs website, but once again one or two individuals are trying to undermine the hard work the members of the committee and general members of the association do. Saying that though, I'd like to thank all those who posted supporting us, especially the ones who complemented the website. It's good to get some feedback!

The BFCSA is run by fans for fans and we are here for your benefit. Obviously you're never going to get a thousand people to have exactly the same opinion, but we'd like to think we represent the majority of you.

Just for the record I'd publicly like to state that the committee is in support of the KBA and backs Janet and her hard working team. Two members of the BFCSA committee are also on the KBA committee and other members help out when possible. We feel there is no need for two similar organizations to tread on each other's toes, instead the supporters association has provided large sums of money to the KBA- originally when the KBA was set up and also this season to purchase the car flags.

If you have been reading the 'Meet The Committee' section on this page you will know what individual people have done over the years. We realise that as the Club has got more professional it hasn't needed the services of the association as much around the ground on match day, but we believe we still provide a worthwhile service.

Also if there is something that you disagree with or you have any ideas that you think the BFCSA would find useful then why not let us know.

The 'Meet The Committee' feature is here so you can see who represents you and we are all available to discuss anything about Barnet FC with you.

You can contact me via e-mail at psnow@bfcsa.net and also through the website www.bfcsa.net.

If you'd prefer to write a letter you can send it to me at: Phil Snow BFCSA, 55 Longmore Avenue, New Barnet, Herts, EN5 1AA.

Also, if you're not a BFCSA member, why not join today. If you want to come to the AGM in the summer you have to be a member this season.

One last thing, there are a few places on the committee that need filling. If you really want to contribute something here's your chance.

Nearly forgot, if you're standing near the drum you can thank committee member John Snow for donating it and the BFCSA for buying the new skin!

QUIZ TEAM

Unfortunately the team lost in the Home Counties Football Quiz League Cup on Sunday 45-68 to the brilliant AFC Wimbledon.

Team: John Erroll, Alex Jones, Steve Percy, David Bown, Peter Croft, and Paul Reisman.

Barnet Man of the match: Peter Croft.

(Ed's Note - due to space constraints the quiz team news had to be omitted from the actual programme. Remember, you saw it here first on bfcsa.net!)

MEET THE COMMITTEE

Name Geoff Masters
Age 41

Time on BFCSA committee? 10 years
Where do you stand at Underhill? East Terrace
Favourite current player? Lee Harrison
Favourite all time player? Gary Phillips

Favourite ground visited? Roots Hall, Southend (read on)

I was a bit of a late starter when it came to supporting the Bees. I had never even been to a football match until first coming to Underhill sometime in 1986. If my memory serves me correctly, the first two or three games I attended finished as 0-0 draws.

My mates were beginning to wish they had never bothered trying to convert me to the beautiful game. They were starting to see me as some kind of jinx! However, as I had enjoyed myself so much, I wasn't too bothered about the lack of goals and insisted they let me keep coming. The goals soon came and I was well and truly hooked.

When the club entered what many would say was it's darkest time, the post Flashman/Fry period, I wanted to do something to help. The Association had always done all kinds of jobs in and around the ground, so I approached BFCSA chairman, Steve Percy, and offered my services.

I was duly co-opted onto the committee and set to work operating one of the turnstiles. Some of you may also remember me working at the Durham Suite, where I could be seen on matchdays, dressed in a suit! My mates loved that!

My greatest memories are of the season we spent in the second division. With Gary Phillips' makeshift squad, we somehow managed to knock Barry Fry's first division Southend out of the Coca-Cola cup.

I remember saying at the time; "I don't care if we don't win another game all season!"

You know what they say; be careful what you wish for; I could have easily got my wish.

There was of course the FA Cup run that same year, where we took Premiership Chelsea to a third round replay. The passion and commitment on the part of everyone involved with the club at the time was fantastic, not least the supporters.

Oh, happy days!

If some within the borough get their way, our club could once again find itself with the prospect of difficult times ahead. Perhaps, like me, they need converting to the beautiful game. Wherever we might find ourselves in the coming years, I know the passion and commitment will continue.

Come on you Bees!!!
