  The Season So Far

Unfortunately for the Bees Morcambe are in the middle of a very succesful run. They are currently second in the current form table and haven't lost since 18th January away to Yeovil. In fact Yeovil are the only team to have beaten them at home, 1-2 way back in their second home game of the season.

They've only conceded eight goals at Christie Park with nine clean sheets and put 38 past the opposition.

On Tuesday night they hosted Margate, beating them 3-0.

Barnet - what can I say? I don't like to be negative, I really want to be behind the Lads - BUT THEY KEEP LETTING US DOWN. How can the club expect people to pay good money and come week after week only to see such atrocious football. How many of those who left when Stevenage scored their second will be coming back next time?

Not many I should imagine.

It saddens me that all the hard work people like Janet and the KBA do, trying to get the ground situation sorted out, will probably be for nothing because at this rate we won't need a new ground.

Until the team perform on the pitch the fans won't come. You can have the best, shiniest ground in the world but if the football's bad, it will be empty.

This is backed up by the attendances achieved when the Club won promotion and entered the League as shown in the table below.

Simple equation: Good Football = Good Crowds.

(Sorry for that - Rant over).

History

Morcambe were formed in 1920 and joined the Lancashire Combination. They played at Woodhill Lane but moved to Roseberry Park the following season. They won the league in 1924/25 and were runners up the next term. The ground was re-named Christie Park.

From 1927 to the end of the War Morcambe were not very succesful, but finished fourth in the 46/47 season.

1960/61 was possibly their best season when they were League Champions, Lancashire Junior Cup Winners, also reaching the 3rd round of the FA Cup losing 0-1 to Weymouth in front of a record crowd of 9,234.

1966/67 was another good one, winning the League and Combination Cup. This was achieved again the following season, also being the first non-league club to win the Lancashire Senoir Cup.

In 1973/74 Morcambe triumphed at Wembley, beating Dartford 2-1 in the FA Trophy.

Then a ten year baron period followed, with financial problems and poor performances on the pitch, but the 1985/86 season saw a third place (Northern League) League position and winning the Junior Cup.

1994/95 sees Morcambe getting promotion into the Conference after finishing runners-up.They finished 9th in their first season.

Chritie Park has had a lot of money spent on it and is now up to League standard.

Morcambes most succesful season in the Conference so far was 1999/2000 when they finished third. Last season they ended up one place behind the Bees in sixth.
