  The Season So Far

Barnet and Northwich's league stats are practically identical, with the teams in 11th and 12th places.

At home the Vics haven't really set the world alight and the six wins have been against teams that are finising in a mid to lower place in the league, that is apart from Morecambe (currently 2nd) who they beat 3-2 back on the 18th september. Chester (1-1) and Hereford (2-2) are the only teams of any note they have drawn against.

Away they had a good 5-0 win over at Halifax and a 2-1 at Doncaster in February.

On Monday they went to Leigh and drew 1-1 and on Saturday they entertained Southport and took all the points winning 2-1.

Barnet drew both their games over the Easter holiday. On a freezing cold Saturday the lads managed a 2-2 draw down at a windwept Gravesend & Northfleet and on the Monday they had a repeat 0-0 against Woking.

We must be one of the only teams in the league not to put one of the 81 goals past them!

(Ed's note - Having checked this I can confirm that we are indeed, the only team who haven't scored against Woking this season! Every team, other than Woking, has also scored against us.)

I think a 1-1 draw is on the cards, but what do I know?

Phil's Prediction
Northwich Victoria 1 Barnet 1

History

Northwich Victoria were founded in 1874 and named after the reigning monarch Queen Victoria.

At first they only played friendlies, then joined a few other clubs formining a Combination.

1892 saw them become founder members of Division 2 of the Football League, but only lasted a couple of years.

They returned to the Combination, then played in the Chehire league for a couple of years from 1898. They moved to the Manchester League staying until 1912/13, going over to the Lancashire Combination until the Great War.

After the War they joined the newly formed Cheshire County League, winning it in 1956/57. The Vics stayed put up to 1968 when they accepted an invitation to join the Northern Premier League. Another move to the Alliance Premier League came in 1979, were they have stayed ever since.

In 1976/77 Northwich defeated three league sides in an FA Cup run, Rochdale, Peterborough and Watford were despatched on the way to a fourth round tie against Oldham Athletic. Nearly 30,000 people watched them lose at Maine Road.

They were runners-up in the FA Trophy Final in 1982/83, losing out to Telford United 2-1 at Wembley. The following year they returned to play out a 1-1 draw with Bangor City, winning the replay 2-1 at Stokes Victoria Ground!

Another Wembley appearance was played in 1995/96, again in the FA Trophy Final. This time it was Macclesfield Town who put paid to their glory, the Vics going down 3-1.

The Drill Field has had competitive football played on it since 1875. Last seson the Bees played the last competitive game at the Drill Field ending with a 3-0 for win for the Black & Amber. This season they are playing at nearby Witton Albion.
