History and The Season So Far

Tiverton Town are a team that are going places under manager Martyn Rogers. They won the FA Vase two years running in 1997-98 and 1998-99, gaining promotion to the Dr Martens Premier in the 2000-01 season.

They are now looking for a Conference place, needing to extend their Ladysmead home by the New Year grading deadline. This requires around £200,000, half of which is expected from a Football Foundation grant. They want to build a 1500 capacity stand to boost their overall capacity in line with the Conference minimum. Council permission is pending on this!!

They are in a healthy financial position with their recent rapid growth paid for, and have not tried to progress before it was financially viable. In a recent interview in the Non-League Paper, chairman David Wright said "If we do make the Conference, it will be with the team we have now. We won't make the mistake of paying big wages, because you can't bankrupt the club for the sake of status."

So far in the FA Cup they have beaten Taunton Town and Weymouth, and are looking for a good cup run again this year. In the league they are currently seventh with 3-1 wins at home over Havant & Waterlooville, Ilkeston Town and Newport County. Away they have beaten Weymouth 2-0 and lost to Cambridge City 0-3.

Although losing 1-0 at home last Saturday to Hastings United, this was probably due to the fact that they had the FA Cup on their minds the following week.

Phil's Prediction
Although predicting the Bee's to win last week against Kettering, I did expect it to be banana skin that could trip us up. This match should be approached with caution as Tiverton will be out to do to us the same as we did to higher clubs in the past. So a cautiously optimsitic...
