Tony Jeffries

by Alec Jones

Sad news to report the passing of Tony Jeffries after a long and latterly extremely difficult illness aged just 60.

Mal Sorenson introduced Tony to Barnet in the mid 80's and I must have met him about five years later. He was a proud Lancastrian and saw no reason to lose his accent, which he brought down with him in the 70's.

At his Funeral London-Burnley supporters came to honour their mate. For him, a perfect weekend would see Barnet, Everton and Lancy all triumph - that and an abundance of real ale! Sometimes he would regail us with tales of go-go dancers at the Morcambe Tivoli, where he saw the Stones and the Rockin' Berries. 'That Alma Cogan were a right looker' he said on more than one occasion.

Another saying - yelled out of train carriage windows at train spotters was 'Rest easy my old mate' which seems quite fitting now. We hope to sponsor the ball for the Accy game in his honour. Keep the Faith.
