Programme Notes Exeter City, 07 October 2003 Hello and welcome to the BFCSA Page. LEN PETCH The sad news of the passing away of Len Petch came through too late for me to include a tribute in the Morcambe programme. As you probably know Len was not only the photographer at the club but also a fan. I'd just like to write a few words of condolence here. Even though Len didn't know me, he gladly arranged to take photos of my daughters with a few players on the pitch. My girls weren't mascots or anything but he asked them who their favourites were and called Maik Taylor, Sean Devine and Shaun Gale to come over and do the honours. Later on he took an 'official' photo of my eldest daughter with Scott McGleish when she won a shirt in a painting competion. Thanks for that Len, it made us feel part of the club and I'd like thank you on behalf of the BFCSA committee for all the great memories your photos bring back. MANAGER OF THE MONTH Another news item came in after I had sent off the last notes was the 'Manager of the Month' award to Martin Allen. Well done Martin, from everybody in the BFCSA. Let's hope it's the first of many! WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? At the beginning of the season I said that I'd tell you how the BFCSA committee spends the funds. Well, you may have noticed the pitch is looking in even better shape than before. This is due to the new lawnmower that was purchased over the summer. It was brought to our attention that Ron Sturgess, the groundsman, needed a replacement, so the committee agreed we would pay half the price with the club paying the rest.
After looking through the Argos catalogue we saw a nice looking 'Flymo' for £60.00. Unfortunately this wasn't quite up to the job and in the end the BFCSA paid £1200.00 towards the new machine. I think you'll agree Ron is doing a great job out there, especially as it hasn't rained a lot lately! This is just one example of how we spend your money. It also shows why more people are needed to join the BFCSA. Last season we ended up with 359 members. That's not bad, I've previously said it's about 25% of our fanbase. But you don't have to be Carol Vorderman to work out that 359 members at an average of £3.00 subscription is only £1077.00. As you can see we've already spent that! I'll tell you in a later programme what else we have done, but for now, if you are not a member, get along to the kiosk and join. You know it makes sense! |
