QUIZ TEAM IN ACTION The quiz team has been keeping itself busy even though the season ended some weeks ago. The team comprising Steve Percy, Bill Cresswell, Fred Stiff and David Bown took part in the Ladbrokes Non-League Knowledge Quiz, held over the weekend of the FA Trophy Final. There was a first prize of £1000 for the winners, which was to be used by the winning team to do up their clubhouse. The Lads got down to the last eight but unfortunately didn't quite make it, as Ann Percy reports below. Congratulations to Forest Green Rovers who flew the Conference flag by beating Altrincham 48-47 to win the Final of the Non-League Knowledge Quiz. We were unfortunately knocked out at the Quarter-Final stage by Winchester, with Guiseley, Hertford, Rugby and Ilfracombe making up the numbers. It was a very enjoyable weekend and well organized by Tony Williams (Editor of the excellent Non-League Directory). We arrived at Quality Inn Hotel on Saturday morning and, after coffee, the Quiz began with three quarter-finals before breaking to watch the FA Cup Final. We re-commenced with Barnet's exit from the competition, which was followed by the semi-finals and final. We then changed for dinner, among the invited guests were Peter Shreeves and Phil Gridelet. The next morning the Barnet and Forest Green contingent went to Walsall FC to watch the finals of the National Federation Quiz. Not surprisingly Blackpool (London) were victors over a Wolves team. Blackpool (Northern) made it a double by beating Walsall in the Plate Final. A couple of us had an excellent time at the market held on the Bescot Stadium car park, didn't we H! We then headed over to Villa Park to watch the FA Trophy Final. Burscough were well outnumbered by Tamworth supporters, but the fans we saw at the end didn't seem too upset at losing - obviously not real supporters! I wonder how many of them we'll see at Underhill in the coming season? We headed back down the motorway disappointed at not having won the quiz but pleased to have reached the last eight and having made more friends with the fellow non-league supporters. Sub-editor's footnote: I'd like to thank all the people involved with the quiz team for all the time and effort they put in. Not only do they promote the good name of Barnet FC around the country but also if things had been different on the day they could have brought in a very handy £1000 for the club. If anyone is interested in joining the quiz team contact us at info@bfcsa.net and we will forward your details. |
