Match Preview

So Barnet come across their fourth cup competition of the season with the league certainly being the priority. You can certainly see a weaker line up being put out with a number of league home games on the horizon.

Dover are now looking for a place in the Conference South when restructuring sets in, after a poor start to the season. They were up there among the favourites but a number of defeats soon saw that off. That said, their last seven league games have yielded 19 points out of a possible 21.

Barnet have had a good amount of success in Cup competitions so far this year. In the LDV Vans Trophy, an epic draw against Brentford ended up in a defeat on penalties with a weakened side doing a fantastic job against a relatively strong Division Two side. In the FA Cup, Barnet overcame Bracknell, took 180 minutes to beat Stalybridge and the journey ended with a 5-1 mauling at Yeovil. In the Herts Senior Cup, just one game has been played, with a 4-1 victory over Ware.

Dover have played just the one game in the Trophy, and beat Welling 1-0 away from home. In the FA Cup they were beaten 4-3 at Canvey Island in the 3rd Qualifying Round. Finally, in their county cup, they recently thrashed a relatively strong Gravesend side 3-0 at Stonebridge Road. Some achievement.........

Here's to a good Cup tie then!

Having visited Dover's ground twice, both in midweek when Margate have been playing there, I don't want to have to go back there again in a replay. It is my least favourite ground, sorry!

Dover and Barnet have themselves only met twice in the Conference with Barnet taking four points from the two matches in the season that Dover went down. They have potential which remained unfulfilled until recently and if they had achieved that potential they could certainly have been up challenging with Weymouth for promotion back to the Conference.

Their top scorer is way out in front compared to other scorers at the club. Craig Wilkins has scored 15 goals this season in the league and is joint top of the Dr Martens scoring charts. Attendances have remained very respectable for the level that they play at. They have mostly been at the level of about 700-800 (exact average of 792) and their highest was 1,103 when Eastbourne Borough rolled into town.

According to reports around 300 Whites fans will be around in Barnet on Saturday and who's to say they can't be hopeful of a result.

BFCSA Prediction
Barnet will predictably put out a weaker line up and with Dover on such form it should be a good tie. I don't want a draw, we don't need a draw, but that result stares us in the face.

Barnet 1-1 Dover Athletic, Att:: 1,521
