| Gravesend haven't won in the
league since the 20th September when they beat Exeter 3-2
at Stonebridge Road. That said, in the seven games since
then, they have only lost once, drawing the other six.
That includes a creditable 3-3 draw at Hereford. They
drew twice with Exeter in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying
also and only beat them on penalties in the replay. They
picked up another scalp in the Cup by defeating Chester
1-0 at Fortress Deva. Don't let their league position
fool you. Barnet were pegged back to a 2-2 draw against Stalybridge in the Cup. My report of this game was very strongly worded so I would like to take the opportunity to apologise to anyone who read it and was offended, so, sorry. We were very unfortunate not to definitely book our place in the 2nd Round as the referee's decision to award Stalybridge a penalty was nothing short of ludicrous. You must have seen it on BBC, it was NOT a penalty! There was nothing wrong with the Barnet performance, we were worth the victory and worth the trip to Yeovil (groan) but the penalty and the sucker punch of a goal right on Half Time were catalysts to our downfall. Still, what's done is done and we'll have to produce a professional performance to overcome them at Bower Fold on Tuesday week. I can't get there :( Last season saw Gravesend humiliate us at Underhill with a rather flattering 4-1 scoreline but nonetheless a deserved victory over a Barnet side who'd conceded four more the previous Saturday at Forest Green. 251 Gravesend supporters sang throughout and were a credit to their club. Unfortunately for them, they slipped up throughout the season and it took a 1-0 last day win against Halifax to ensure their safety. The game at Stonebridge Road was one of only two away games I wasn't present at last season so all I can say is that it was 2-2! Despite their position,
Gravesend can't be taken lightly, just look at their
result on Saturday at Chester. It'll have to be another
strong performance to get the three points required. |

| They sold us Liam Hatch, thanks
very much! Hatchy has looked very threatening since he
came back prematurely from a serious injury picked up
against Arsenal in Pre-Season. He looked amazing when he
came on as sub against Brentford and looks like £23,000
well spent, so thanks again. Gravesend started the season poorly but have sort of picked up as the season has gone on, picking up many many draws (six in total, all in the last seven games) They lost their first four games before beating Farnborough at Cherrywood Road, As commented they have come off the back of a 1-0 FA Cup win at The Deva Stadium, ironic considering Chester were 4-0 victors in the league at Stonebridge Road. Their reward for beating them? A visit from Notts County. Gravesend's away record in the league isn't bad, they have just the one win but have seven points, which is the 12th best away record. Three of those away draws came against Morecambe, Stevenage and Hereford, very creditable indeed and 19th place is perhaps a harsh reflection on those achievements Their top scorer is Rob
Haworth with six in all competitions, Jamie Pinnock has
four and Ben Abbey who was subject to a few transfer
rumours from ourselves in the summer, has three. |
