Match Preview

Hohoho, the merry Barnet wagon moves on again - now coming to stadium near you Margate! Ahem.

Well this is all getting very good isn't it! No defeats in 6, 4 of which have been wins, it really would be nice to add to the excellent vein of form the team is going through. Plummer and Maddix have been solid at the back, Hendon, Rooney, Yakubu and Taggart have all played very well as full backs, Williams adds creativity on the right, Gamble and Hogg although small are fantastic together in midfield, they get stuck in and are great going forward too, I hope we can keep Gamble for the whole season! We still have an excellent midfielder on the bench, Guy Lopez, it indicates how good Hogg and Gamble have been if we have a player of that calibre is on the bench. Strevens hasn't stopped running since August 9 when we beat Telford and deserves more than two goals. Then there's Grazioli with 10 goals in 9 games, that speaks for itself does it not?

So who dares to stand in our way! Margate are the hosts this Tuesday - they have lost every game they have played at home but they haven't been given the nicest of home starts - Aldershot, Chester, Exeter and Stevenage have all been and gone with three points. They've not done too badly away from home, 8 points picked up in 5 games including a very creditable draw at Shrewsbury and most recently, a 1-0 victory at The Shay.

So who do we have to look out for? "Siggy Siggy Siggy" (the unfortunate nickname for Jean Michel Sigere given to him by an over-excited Stevenage PA) but he will be missing due to injury. Manny Omoyimni who was once with Barnet on loan has been signed on loan from Oxford United.

As mentioned Barnet have gone six games unbeaten and while this will not be as tough as the last few weeks have been there is still no room for complacency and the players know this. A third win in a row will be very welcome, the last time we did that, it was the end of the 2001/2002 season. Tells you something about last season doesn't it!

Mardover, Dovegate, whatever we've heard it before! It had been planned that Margate would be playing at Hartsdown this season but unexpected delays in the summer saw that they were back in with their best mates Dover in what must be the most hilly area around a football ground ever (apart from that massive hill next to Dumbarton) How they managed to find a relatively flat area to put a football pitch on is beyond me.

In their first season, Margate upset the odds and did very very well for themselves although that didn't stop Barnet taking six points off them. They did similarly well last season too so what made me think they'd go down this season? Don't ask me. They are without a win at home (four tough teams admittedly) and the gates have dropped dramatically from their first season at Hartsdown. It will be interesting to see whether they go back up when they are back home.

For the second season in a row, the trip to Dover is on a Tuesday night. I very much doubt I'll be down there this year  but will try my best to support the team in some way! Hopefully the performance will be better than last years where we were very much on the rack for large parts of the game and it was a relief to get a draw but at the same time it was frustrating to not get a win. Hmmmm.

Margate will be eager to build on their excellent victory at The Shay and will also want to get rid of a 0% home record. They'll be up for it and if they play well it could be quite tough.
