Match Preview

Woking and Barnet go back a long way, from the stunning 4-4 FA Cup draw at Underhill when Woking were 3-0 up to last years 0-0 draw when the Cards' keeper Shwan Jalal played as if his life depended on it.

In the four Conference meetings, Barnet have come out on top with two wins and two draws including a memorable 3-1 win at Kingfield. Wayne Purser and Frazer Toms putting Barnet 2-0 up in 8 minutes, Woking responded immediately but Purser chipped home a penalty to give Barnet three points in Peter Shreeves' revival stage. At the time, Woking were in dire straits and held on by the skin of their teeth.

Barnet's form has dipped of late but we still hold a strong position in the league. It is vital we don't let Chester and Hereford get away and gain an unassailable gap from third place. Equally, Woking need victories to pull themselves into the battle for the playoffs, so it's fair to say that the Boxing Day clash is all to play for.

Three of Barnet's key players will be back after being suspended for the horrendous 2-0 defeat at home to a resurgent Farnborough. Indeed, it seemed that striker Guiliano Grazioli was the missing link in the defeat.

Try and postpone all family get-togethers to get down to Woking on Friday and also don't sit at home and watch the New Years Day return game on SKY. The team needs your support now more than ever, don't let them down.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone!

Well it would seem after a rather large blip in their form over the last few seasons, Woking are back to a more familiar position in the Conference. They lie in a good position as we go through Christmas just a few points off a Playoff place.

Their form of late has let them sustain that position. In their last six games they have managed to yield 13 points and 15 goals and that leaves them top of the form table. Barnet are 12th in that table. Steve Ferguson is their top scorer with 9 goals and Amos Foweya, Ian Selley and Chris Sharpling are not far behind with eight each. Jefferson Louis who was with the side for the first months of the season had already grabbed 5 goals in that time until he went back to Oxford United as part of his loan deal.

Attendances at Kingfield have remained typically high, even throughout their bad patch. Their current average is 2,221, higher that last years average of 1,999. I find it very good that Woking could sustain such attendances last season even with the way things were going for them, they rarely dropped below 1,500.

There is a lot made of Woking's Leslie Gosden Stand which you can see a mile off! It dwarfs the rest of the ground and is easily worthy of being in a higher level. If Woking can continue their form, it could well host league football for the first time. The rest of the ground, it's fair to say, doesn't live up to the standard set.
